As I passed through the Peru – Ecuador border, I met Jos and Karen, a couple from the Netherlands that have lived in Ecuador for the last 18 years and before that, 8 years in Colombia. They generously invited me to stay with them and offered their assistance in a multitude of ways for which I am exceptionally grateful. They also pointed out many interesting places, including the area around Laguna San Pablo, where the indigenous people of Ecuador live. I wanted to get in contact with these people and I certainly did. Despite it being extremely difficult to get permission to take photos of them, I managed to get a few. The highlight of my visit was being invited to a small gathering that was full of joy and beautifully dressed people celebrating their custom. As I left the area, I came across an old man. This was the saddest moment of my trip and I felt guilt recording it. If you watch the video and feel the same sadness, I encourage you to make a contribution to someone that may be in a similar situation. In so doing, you will help me justify my recording and publishing of this video. The ignorance of this man’s existence was alarming to say the least. The only ones that showed the old man some attention, were the dogs.
